Sweet Taste of Business Success
A St Mary’s College team of Year 10 students tasted sweet success in the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) Fraser Coast 2015 Funny Business competition in June.
After netting a profit of $50.85 from their business Sugar Hit, and presenting their marketing plan and outcome to USQ judges onJune 10, the team scored the winner’s trophy and $120 voucher.
USQ Vice Chancellor and President Professor Jan Thomas congratulated the winners and other young entrepreneurs who developed and ran small businesses to compete in this year’s USQ Fraser Coast Funny Business Competition.
“The students were judged on their business and marketing plans during presentations to the other competitors and a USQ judging panel,” Professor Thomas said.
Sugar Hit CEO Thomas Groth said: “We’re very excited about winning.”
“We sold 150g mixed lolly bags and a variety of soft drinks to raise $50.85, which we donated to the Maryborough Animal Refuge.”
The St Mary’s College business Groovy Smoothies won an $80 voucher for second place having traded berry and banana smoothies within their school and local communities.
In third place was the St James Lutheran College business Jamble Magic Shoes, which sold decorated canvas shoes. They won a $50 voucher.
The USQ judging panel included business lecturer Michelle Hay, marketing co-ordinator Amanda Guiver and school engagement marketing officer Katy Barnes.
